Challenges of Change Economic Summit (2007)

The WindsorEssex Development Commission, with major financial support from the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, hosted a first ever summit of community stakeholders interested and involved in the economic development of the Windsor-Essex Region on August 24, 2007.

The Challenges of Change Summit was designed to reflect the economic situation in which our Region finds itself. The purpose of the summit was to develop strategies for the future, reflecting our position as part of a global economy and our need to capitalize on the areas that have the greatest potential for future growth. The summit explored and analyzed gaps in service, the necessary shift in skills base and new employers' requirements to meet the needs of the current global reality. The conference is one step in a long-term process to expand the current economic base of the Region and to develop strategies to diversify the economy, while looking for opportunities for our manufacturing sector.

The all day event involved 275 people from across the Windsor-Essex Region, including local businesses, elected officials from all levels of government, academics, labour leaders and public sector administrators. The design of the summit included presentations from expert speakers followed by breakout sessions where participants were able to provide input on issues and future options which will develop a foundation for future growth and prosperity.
