TECHNOLOGY FIRM MAKES INROADS WITH CONTROLLER Using technology 40 years in the making, a Windsor company is slowly making inroads with its high-speed CNC controller which is designed to substantially reduce cycle times for complex machining processes. Carlo Miceli, president of Miceli Technologies, said the controller "dramatically improves productivity and can be extremely beneficial to local companies seeking to become more efficient at a time when the marketplace is eroding beneath their feet. There's a tremendous amount of tools built into the controller which provides 99 per cent of the day-in, day-out functionality required by the operator," said Miceli, who has been involved in the research and development of the product for the past five years. "It's got local roots, its technology was developed locally and it's one more example of the cutting-edge R&D being done by local companies," said Miceli. Miceli's MTI high-speed CNC controller adds competitive life to existing equipment, reduces wear and tear on both the machine tool and cutting tools, shortens cycle times and provides high return-on-investment numbers. Miceli said his system has the most intelligent look-ahead algorithms in the industry, 50,000 blocks per second processing speed, highest average feed rate, simple operator interface, applications include email, scheduling, viewers and data collection, is easily customized and has both a stand-alone and workstation version. "We believe we've developed a product that gives our customer a competitive advantage," said Miceli. "Most companies recognize it is imperative to continue investing in new technologies and many are also realizing that reinvesting in their current equipment can also be very profitable." Miceli said the technology was developed with the aid of discussions with machine operators, supervisors, plant managers and technology directors. Recently, Miceli installed one of his controllers on a customer's 14-year-old machine in Minnesota with the end result that the machine ran six times faster than it had when it was new. Retrofitting machines with Miceli's controller is less expensive than buying new and can often provide a return-on-investment within 30 days. |
