Employer Incentives

Several government sponsored programs are available to come to the aid of companies hiring from the unemployed workforce.

Targeted Wage Subsidy

  • Wages for Employment Insurance beneficiaries can be subsidized at a rate of 40-60% for 26-32 weeks
  • Typically for the Windsor-Essex Region, the agreements with employers run for 32 weeks at a rate of 60% of the wages
  • Up to 10% of an employer's workforce can be subsidized by the Targeted Wage Subsidy

Ontario Works

  • Employer Incentives could offer:
    • Training costs
    • Identification and screening of potential candidates
    • Initial interviewing, coordination of job fairs
    • Skills assessment
    • Employment related expenses for the potential candidate, including assistance with childcare, transportation and other
    • Safety equipment, uniforms, etc.
    • Pool of candidates possessing diverse range of skills/education
  • Agreements will be tailored to the specific needs of the employer.
  • Ontario Works provides financial and employment assistance to eligible recipients from across the Windsor-Essex region. Individuals in receipt of Ontario Works have a wide range of experience and education.

The Precarn Industrial T-GAP

New Fund Available for Getting to Market Faster!

Precarn has just released a call for applications to its reinvigorated T-GAP Program. Like its predecessor, the program focuses on the gap between technology innovation and commercialization. The program is designed for very small and start-up companies. This is an open competition with no specific deadline date. Applications are accepted on a first-come first-served basis.

Precarn is seeking immediate applications to this program. $500,000 has been allocated for projects costing up to a maximum $60,000 in Precarn contribution. Precarn funding will be up to 75% of the total eligible project costs. The average Precarn contribution is expected to be about $40,000. Once a project is approved, 75% of the Precarn funds will be made available upon contract signing and the remaining 25% will be paid upon project completion and delivery of a final report.

Job Connect

  • Offers employers training reimbursement for up to $4000 over a period of 6 months
  • Subsidy amounts are negotiated on an individual basis and vary depending on the training requirement of the position and the skills of the individual
  • Ongoing job performance support is offered to employers and clients over the course of the training agreement

Apprenticeship Training Tax Credit

  • The program reimburses corporations and unincorparate businesses 25% of eligible expenditures paid or payable after May 18, 2004 and before January 1, 2011 to qualifying apprentices during the first 36 months of the apprenticeship
  • Maximum tax credit for apprentice is $5000 per year.
  • For corporations and unincorporated businesses having total salaries in the previous taxation year of less than $400,000, the rate of the tax credit is increase to 30%
