Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010

The Windsor Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) was ranked as having the most affordable housing out of 28 Canadian markets surveyed by the Sixth Annual Demographia International Housing Affordability Survey. Of the 272 major housing markets Demographia surveyed including Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United States, and the United Kingdom, Windsor, CMA was ranked 20th for having an "affordable housing market".

Based on historical trends, a median multiple of 3.0 or below is judged to be "affordable". Windsor, CMA stands out as a model for others for having achieved a median multiple of 2.2. Housing affordability is coming to be recognized as a driver of internal migration on a very large scale in Canada, the United States and internationally. Housing affordability is very important to a community, it allows workers to live economically and invest and consume more in the rest of the economy.
