Growth Options and Sources of Captial Available to Mid-Market Canadian Businesses
On Tuesday, April 16, 2016 the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation hosted an event that included a panel of industry experts who provided a high-level overview of the marekt and provided insight into different considerations for growth. The topics discussed included:
- Trends and outlooks for mid-market companies in the Windsor-Essex Region
- Financial Growth: Understanding the options and the importance of strategic, legal and tax considerations of a deal
- Lessons from the trenches, highlighting relevant case studies of private equity deals

Windsor-Essex Manufacturers' Supplier Day
On April 29, 2015 the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation hosted the Windsor-Essex Manufacturers’ Supplier Day Event. Over 75 local manufacturers filled the Augustus Ballroom at Caesars Windsor.
The Supplier Day Event featured three major companies ABB, Siemens and SNC-Lavalin all international in scope and with multiple divisions that require suppliers. Their work spans infrastructure, industrial, power, nuclear, robotics and more.
The morning was spent hearing from senior procurement representatives from ABB, Siemens and SNC - Lavalin. Windsor-Essex companies with processes that fit the needs of ABB, Seimens and SNC Lavalin were selected for one-on-one meetings in the afternoon portion of the event.
Immigrant Investor Forum
On May 5, 2014 the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation hosted an Immigrant Investor Forum. Attendees included regional immigration lawyers as well as corporate accountants. The objective of this forum was to assist economic development with the identification and introduction of potential immigrant investors to Windsor-Essex and to develop a protocol on how we will respond to a potential investor to our region. The Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration that administers the Ontario’s Provincial Nominee Program presented an overview of what their program looks like and how they can help us achieve success with our program.

Recruiting High Skilled Temporary Foreign Workers Seminar
On March 26, 2013 the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corp hosted a seminar on Recruiting High Skilled Temporary Foreign Workers. With the skills gap in our available labour force, many companies are turning to recruiting foreign workers to fill the void in addition to employing other strategies like attracting youth, new and improved internal training programs and working with partners in education to continuously improve and upgrade the skills of the existing workforce.
We heard from the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment about their Corporate Immigration Advisory Services; Service Canada on obtaining a Labour Market Opinion; Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration on the Provincial Nominee Program; and Citizenship and Immigration Canada on Work Permits, Work Permit Exemptions, Temporary Foreign Worker Unit and Permanent Residence.
The presentations cover the rules and regulations, and links to further information as well as key contacts in each Ministry that can assist companies in their high-skilled foreign worker recruitment strategies.

Stakeholder Engagement Session - March 24, 2010
The leadership at the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation has determined the time is right to revisit the strategic plan to determine if the focus needs to be recalibrated and if the targeted industry growth sectors are aligned with the economic realities in the national and international context. In addition, the WEEDC believes the strategic plan concept needs to be expanded to focus on a broader roadmap for the economic development for the Windsor-Essex Region. The presentation below was viewed at the Stakeholder Engagement Session held on March 24, 2010 at the Ciociaro Club.
